This weekend is chock full of great science events. JPL in Pasadena is having their annual Open House.  and Natural History Museum in LA is having their annual Bug Fair.

JPL Climate Day 2010 will bring students, educators and the general public together with scientists and other climate experts for a free, educational and fun event about Earth’s changing climate.

Researchers and other representatives from NASA, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, universities and additional organizations will speak on various aspects of climate change. Topics include the effects of greenhouse gases and clouds on climate, the difference between weather and climate, the role of the ocean in global warming, and how scientists study Earth’s climate from space. Attendees may participate in hands-on activities; view exhibits, demonstrations and student presentations; play Climate Jeopardy and other games; and get information on careers and resources for teachers and community members. Finally! Spring is here! We are in the middle of science kit refurbishment at the SMC and things are going well. With extra added support we are halfway there. Spring delivery begins on April 13th.

Community Science Night is back! We will be working with Orange Unified School District and Santiago Canyon College. This event is for students and families to participate in hands-on science investigations. Teacher volunteers are the core to this program and its with their help that it keeps going. We are all looking forward to an exciting evening of science. Come be a part of this event on March 12th from 6:00pm to 8:00pm held at Santiago Canyon College. Family tickets are given out by classroom teachers.

Exciting news for PYLUSD! We have the wonderful opportunity to host a speaker session by Dr. Mike Klentschy.  His work in the El Centro school district with science notebooking is exciting. He now works as a consultant and researcher. He will be talking about his book  Using Science Notebooks in the Elementary Classroom. (Jan. 28th, 3:00pm to 5:00pm)
